Gaana Sudha journey started from the year 2011.

Some of you may not know about Kaveri..it is the Kannada Association of the DC metro area. Kaveri organizes the Kaveri Idol singing competition modeled after American Idol, in January of every year for adults and kids. At the 2011 Kaveri Idol program, it was felt that there was a great interest in people to participate in singing Kannada songs. Based on this interest, a group of singers got together for the first time on June 11,2011 at Vienna, Virginia for the first singing session. The singers on that evening were Kavitha Kukkilaya, Veena Suresh, Uma Basavanna, Chaitra Sudhakar, Gayathri, Nijaguna Prasad, Ravishankar Mahadevappa and Haridas T. Lahari. The following month few more singers Meena Rao, Geetha Bhat, Ram Rao, and Jay Savand joined the group. The group gained timely guidance and advice from experienced veteran singer Ram Rao in every occasions.

couple of names were floated for this Karaoke singers group and finally Shobha Rao suggested the name " Gaana Sudhaa". GaanaSudha first performed at Kaveri Ganesha Utsav in 2011 . The singers have been meeting every month since then, taking turns in hosting the monthly meetings. They do about three to four rounds of singing, majority of the songs are in Kannada but they also sing Sanskrit, Hindi, Malayalam and occasionally few Tamil Telugu and Gujarathi songs too. The main theme of these meets is having great fun singing. So far, GaanaSudha has performed on 5 different occasions, including in 2013 a tribute to Late Dr P.B. Srinivas and the most recent successful performance at Richmond Kannada Sangha.

Over the past three years GaanSudhaa has added couple more great singing talents in Sushmitha, Aruna and Mamatha. Today, the group has 10 singers and in the future, there is a plan is to start a karaoke group for kids too. The main reasons for the success of this group has been the support of spouses and children of singers, Smt. Shobha Rao for making sure that not even one monthly meeting is missed and off course encouragement from friends like you all. You have come from far away corners of DC Metro here this afternoon. The one common thing that binds us all is our passion for music.
